Bali is renowned as one of the world’s premier holiday and travel destinations for it’s tropical climate, unique culture, warm people, beautiful beaches, elegant sunsets, peaceful mountain scenery and traditional villages. Bali offers a nearly endless list of activities but here is our top five:
Bali is well known for its thousands of temples all are magnificent but the most famous are also often the most picturesque. The most visited temples are Pura Tanah Lot, along the island’s west coast; PuraUluwatu, on Bali’s southern cliffs; Pura Goa Gajah near Ubud, PuraBesakih, on the slopes of the sacred Mount Agung; and PuraUlun Danu Beratan on the shores of Lake Beratan. When you visit a temple, make sure to wear the proper attire, which consists of sarong and sash. These are readily available for rent or donated to visitors on site.
If there’s one thing that outnumbers temples on Bali, it’s culinary options. From street food stalls to world-class restaurants you can find high-quality meals everywhere. And it’s not just limited to local Balinese or Indonesian cuisine either. Japanese, Italian and other popular cuisines add to the island’s international flavor. The classic, though, is a perfectly grilled fish to be enjoyed while taking in a beautiful sunset from a cliff or along the beach.
With beautiful beaches around every corner, watersports of every type are extremely popular and readily available on Bali. Surfing, snorkeling, parasailing, Jet Ski, banana boat, snorkeling, wakeboarding, sea-walking and many more can be found along the most popular beaches in Bali like Kuta, Tanjung, Benoa, Sanur, and Nusa Lembongan.
If you get bored on the beach, head inland to Bali’s regal and sacred mountains. Climbing Mount Batur and Mount Agung are the two favorite options in Bali with Mount Batum the easier climb suitable for beginners while Mount Agung is more difficult and requires you to be in decent shape. On both though, we recommend hiring a guide for safety. The best option for either is to start your hike at night so you can experience the breathtaking sunrise from the summit. You’ll truly understand why Bali is called “The Morning of the World”.
